Reflections on the words of Jesus (in red)

“Blessed…”

Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Our Western culture engulfs us with choices. When we are children we learn to pick and choose and try to control the world around us to get what we want from it – we manipulate others, parents, friends, all in the name of getting what we want out of life, or getting what we think we deserve.

God cannot be manipulated in this way. As our culture teaches us to fill up our ego, Christ directs us to empty it out. He tells us that we need not be slaves to pride and power – that the true princes and princesses of the kingdom of heaven, those who will inherit God’s ultimate creation, are those whose spirit has been emptied out so that His spirit can fill them to overflowing.

Empty yourself so that you can be full!

“Follow me…”

Matthew 4:19
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

When you decide to begin walking along the Way, the significance of others around you changes. Your eyes start to open and you make out that you are surrounded by spirits in physical bodies, each one of them a center of focus for the Messiah. Helping others to realize what they are and gently and lovingly guiding them toward the Path to be lead by the good shepherd is now part of your daily walk. This is why you must let your light shine… Fish in dark waters are attracted to light. The brighter you shine, the more fish you might attract.

Shine your mirror, you yourself do not generate the light, you reflect.

“Repent…”

Matthew 4:17

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Here’s your chance.  Everything that holds you back or down, everything that separates you from the Messiah, all the guilt and doubt can evaporate right now!

Repent and throw all those guilt inducing, fear generating actions into the furnace once and for all.  This opens the door.

You can see through the door the Kingdom of Heaven, the unimaginable gift that God prepared for you before you were born.  It’s here!
God’s reality is just in front of you, ready at hand.

God’s reality is this:  He loves you so much that he died to be with you now and later.

Open the door!  He’s right behind it!

“Be gone, Satan…”

Matthew 4:10

“Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.'”

Don’t disconnect from the Messiah.  Don’t plug into anything else.  You’ll only get sputtering and jittery.  Don’t unplug yourself from what you already know to be true.  The other fake power sources will leave you hungry.

Since everyone you meet yearns to be connected to the Messiah, everything you do can help them connect, everything you do serves a purpose right down to offering a glass of water or finishing a letter.

This is what God wants you to know and believe:  Everything is supplied.  Everything is supplied by Him, there is no reason to turn anywhere else.

God is not the accuser or the adversary.  Remove these thoughts.  God creates you for good and recreates you for better.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made and remade!

Be gone accusing thoughts!

“Again it is written…”

Matthew 4:7

“Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'”

Many hear these words and decide not to walk into traffic, asking God to stop the cars; however, YHWH spoke the universe, all of us and our thoughts, into reality, into existence… what can we do that would test Him?  God remains faithful to us even when we are unfaithful to Him.  Still, we should not see God as a doting grandfather ready with coins and candies no matter how we’ve acted.  Our will may fall out of alignment with God’s will when our expectation is for Him to grant every wish, fulfill every desire, stop every pain  – despite our relationship with Him.

God still maintains and sustains us throughout.  He cares for us and takes part in our sufferings, weeps when we weep, laughs when we laugh.  While we may be shaken or twisted off course, YHWH nudges us back into alignment when we let God do God’s work.  The only test is one of our trust, of our faithfulness, of our belief.

Satan asks us to doubt first, before walking into the oncoming cars – the accuser says, “Don’t you agree that if God were true, you would be invincible? Go and find out.”  Anyone can see the flaw in that lie.

Let yourself be as divine as God wants you to be and do not consider those who would trick you out of trust.

“It is written…”

Matthew 4:4

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”

We might misunderstand this teaching to only mean living in “the right way”; but when we come to know Messiah, we learn that He is also the Logos, the Word, the underlying structure of reality and therefore humanity and human nature would not exist if it were not spoken into reality by and through this Logos.

Human beings live because of divine action regardless of their own actions (such as eating bread).

“It is written…” The odd fact that God chose to use human beings as an imperfect writing instrument.  We are the pen and ink of the creator.  Through this conduit of humanity this message arrives, we are spoken into existence by YHWH without opposition or great battles among sky gods; even as we write these words, He says, “I am speaking you alive, speaking your life right now” – as we read, write… as we do anything at all.

“Suffer it to be so for now…”

Matthew 3:15

“Suffer it to be so for now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness.”

Let it be, let it lie, accept now, when you accept your now it beautifies you toward right alignment; loving your now directs you toward perfection and completeness in Messiah; “Us” refers ro your collaboration with divine providence; you and God beautify each other in your eternal relationship through your realization of your now moment as the crest of eternity’s rolling wave; “suffer”, to allow, to let, to accept, to let go of your expectations, may bring temporary discomfort as a means to lasting peace.

Christ wants us to understand that while some events in our lives seem arbitrary to us, we can accept them as evidence of our partnership with Him.

Wake up, but do not be startled, this is Our life. You within me, I within you and both in the Father as I am in the Father. This moment, no matter how average or thrilling, turbulent or still, is evidence of this. Our Now perpetually demonstrates the divine, regardless of your awareness.
